Description

Not for diabetic dogs. If you only have 1-2 dogs, you may want to cut this recipe in half.

Directions

The easiest way to cook the sweet potatoes is to wrap them in foil and roast them in a 400° F oven until done, at least an hour. Once the potatoes are cooled, peel the skins off.

Pureé the potato, carrot, and apple together until relatively smooth. Add the eggs and process until smooth.

Put in a bowl. Stir in the wheat flour, then add oat flour, at a time until you just have a soft ball. If it gets too dry, spritz lightly with water.

Flour your work surface with AP or bread flour. Pull the dough out and knead it, kneading in flour as only needed until you have a ball you can work with, that doesn't stick to you.

Re-flour your work surface. Roll out dough to less than 1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle with flour as needed to prevent sticking.

Use cutters to cut to the appropriate size for your dog(s). Dipping the cutter in flour will help with sticking.

Lay out on a parchment or silicone mat lined baking sheet.

Heat your oven to 300° F.

Bake treats for 30 minutes. Use a wet pastry brush to clean excess flour off the tops, flip and repeat.

Return to the oven and bake another 30-40 minutes, or until hard around the edges. They should crisp up the rest of the way as they cool. (If they don't you can bake them longer or simply store them in the fridge).

Move treats to a cooling rack and let cool completely. Store in a lidded container at room temperature for 1-2 weeks (depending on how humid your environment is) or in the refrigerator for a month.
